It’s never too early to start thinking about life after high school. If you are a CASA for a youth in high school, it’s time to help them start thinking about what’s next – college, trade school, employment? If their answer is college, there are many steps you can support them in now to help them have a successful transition to college. One of the most important steps for high school seniors is to complete their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Even if they are not certain they are going to attend college, this is a great first step. 90% of high school seniors who complete the FAFSA go on to enroll in college within 12 months as compared to just 55% of seniors who do not complete the FAFSA. Help them to begin considering college as a real option. Successful completion of the FAFSA is the single most important step in ensuring foster youth receive financial aid to attend college at little or no cost to them. The application period just opened and students have until March to apply. For a step-by-step guide to help your youth complete the FAFSA check out this link!
