Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Santa Cruz County is a non-profit organization in Watsonville, California that recruits, trains and supervises caring adult volunteers who serve as Advocates for children in foster care and the child welfare system.  

We seek a welcoming, organized self-starter who is friendly, and detail oriented to fill this full time position from approximately December 2019 to mid-May 2020. The ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously, be able to maintain cooperative, effective, collegial working relationships with a diverse population of staff, volunteers, and community members, all while managing multiple projects/priorities.

In addition to greeting volunteers, this position is responsible for general office reception and administrative support, as well as, data management. This position also helps with maintenance of office systems/equipment, technical support and assistance with other projects required for CASA program training and operations.


1. Human Resources:

  1. Responsible for collecting and maintaining accurate data for entry into Optima, CASA’s database of all Volunteer Advocate and case activities.
  2. Responsible for maintaining volunteer status in Bloomerang (donor database) so that all data is accurate across both databases: Optima and Bloomerang.
  3. Conduct thorough background checks on all applicants to the CASA program inclusive of paid staff, volunteers and Board members, in accordance with the CASA of Santa Cruz County Program Manual, and rules and regulations of National and State CASA, the Judicial Council of California and California and Santa Cruz County Rule of Court.
  4. Monitor volunteer and staff compliance with program requirements, including current insurance records, criminal records, driving records, compliance with Continuing Education requirements.
  5. Act as Custodian of Records and maintain the confidentiality of all information received from various federal, state and local sources about staff, volunteers, Appointees, and other program participants.
  6. Maintain paper and electronic records of all documents related to volunteers and Advocates.

2. Office Management: 

  1. Recruit, interview and screen Non-Advocate Volunteers and office interns; match Non-Advocate Volunteers to appropriate volunteer opportunity; schedule Non-Advocate volunteer shifts to maximize effectiveness and oversee Office Assistant’s coordination of Non-Advocate Volunteers to ensure each volunteer has appropriate work opportunities.
  2. Oversee front office and administration of office and office procedures; assures effective and efficient running of administrative support to office and house. 
  3. Prepare reports and provide administrative support to the Executive Director and Program Director, as requested.

3. Administrative Support:

  1. Supervise volunteers when they are in the house and assign and monitor tasks.
  2. Support in house mailings through ensuring appropriate postage is available, setting up house for mailing activities, and taking mailings to post office. 
  3. Assist in organizing all in kind donations of items. Assist in the Holiday Gift Giving collection and distribution.

4. Other Duties:

  1. Participate in program special events and activities, as requested.
  2. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Ideally Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Excellent phone manner and communication skills
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail, and other software
  • Have transportation, car insurance and be willing to travel throughout Santa Cruz County
  • Completion of background screening process (i.e. DMV check, FBI, Department of Justice (DOJ), CACI (Child Abuse Central Index).

Full Time: This is a full time 40 hours/week position, approximately December 2019 to May 2020.

Salary: $18.00/Per Hour
