At 19 years old, Tim* is building a future that once felt far out of reach. Today, he is living on his own, saving money, attending college with a 3.8 GPA, and continuing to grow into the thoughtful, resilient young adult he has worked hard to become.
Four years ago, Tim’s life looked very different. At 15, he was involved with the probation system and was struggling. He was trying to figure out a complicated relationship with his family while navigating the juvenile court system, all which affected his mental health.
This is when CASA Advocate Amy* came in, providing encouragement and belief in his potential. Amy became a steady and trusted presence in Tim’s life over the past four years. She supported him and continued showing up even during some of his hardest moments.
None of Tim’s progress came easily. The changes he made required accountability and tremendous personal resolve. Over time, he began transforming his life. When Tim needed more structure and mental health support, he entered a residential treatment program where he began focusing on healing, stability, and his future. He completed high school and enrolled in online college courses through a community college. He worked hard to fulfill the terms of his probation which he has now done successfully.
Today, Tim is substance-free and committed to maintaining his sobriety. He continues participating in support groups and has intentionally distanced himself from environments that no longer support the life he wants for himself. He is hoping to transfer to a university soon and earn his college degree.
CASA Amy describes Tim as resilient, curious, adventurous, and open-hearted. He loves music and art, enjoys exploring new places, and dreams of traveling, visiting museums, and experiencing more of the world beyond what once felt possible.
Tim’s story is a powerful reminder that young people can thrive when they have the right support system around them. Healing and growth do not happen overnight, and the path is rarely linear, but with encouragement, advocacy, and a consistent ear, it is possible. Tim did the hard work, and CASA Advocate Amy helped ensure he never had to do it alone.
