Become a CASA

Steps to Become a CASA

  • Step 1 Attend an information session

Join us for an information session where a CASA staff member will walk you through the volunteer role and responsibilities. Information meetings are your chance to learn more about what it takes to be a volunteer and ask questions. Information Meetings are being done via Zoom or in person. Sign Up Today!

  • Step 2 Apply Online

Take the next step by completing your volunteer application and begin your journey to becoming a CASA advocate for a child in foster care, juvenile justice or truancy.

The application will take approximately 5-7 minutes to complete. You will need three references with email addresses (we do not contact your references until training begins). Your references could be a friend and 2 professional references. Please have their email and phone number ready with you before beginning the application as it must be completed in a single sitting; you cannot save it and return to it later.

  • Step 3 Pre-training Interview

Tell us more about yourself and what inspires you to volunteer — this helps us ensure every CASA is prepared to show up with the commitment and care our youth deserve.

  • Step 4 CASA Training and Graduation

Our 35-hour pre-service training offered through a blend of in-person and online sessions will fully prepare you to be an advocate.

After completing the CASA training and court observation you’ll be officially sworn in as a CASA advocate by a judge in Children’s Court.

NOTE: You must attend an information meeting and pre-training interview before receiving your invitation to join training. CASA offers four trainings per year become-a-casa/.../casa-training-schedule.html

  • Step 5 Meet Your Supervisor

After graduation, you’ll be matched with an Advocate Supervisor. Your advocate supervisor is a CASA staff member who will support you, provide resources, and guide you though your advocacy journey.
Your Advocate Supervisor will work closely with you on the child's case to provide support in all aspects of your CASA service.

  • Step 6 Congratulations! You are a CASA!
