Making It to Prom: Celebrating a Well Deserved Milestone

Prom Date

Jordan was 17 years old when he became involved in the juvenile justice system. An amazing kid who had strayed off his path, he was swept up in a group of peers and made some bad decisions. He ended up facing multiple charges and was placed on probation, which began a tough but transformative journey.

Shortly after, Jordan was matched with a CASA. That relationship—and the care, accountability, and consistency that came with it—changed the trajectory of his life. In just one year, Jordan graduated from high school, obtained his driver’s license, completed hours of volunteer work at Barrios Unidos, and met all the terms of his probation. Today, his record is sealed, and he’s preparing for a fresh start in a new city.

Recently, with just a few weeks left on probation, Jordan was invited to prom by his girlfriend—a rite of passage for many teens and a joyful celebration of how far he’d come. But when the school told him he couldn’t attend because of his past, CASA Advocate Supervisor Felipe Hernandez and Jordan’s probation officer, Felicia Santiago stepped in. They knew this moment mattered. Together, they agreed to escort Jordan and his date, making it possible for him to enjoy this memorable milestone.

CASA was honored to help make that prom night happen. But none of it would have been possible without Jordan’s own commitment to growth. He did the hard work. He showed up. He took responsibility. He believed in a better future—and made it real.

After prom, Jordan’s father sent a message to CASA that captures it all:

"I would like to take a moment to extend my heartfelt gratitude for the support and kindness you have shown to my son. This journey has been significant for our family, and your willingness to take time out of your busy schedule to provide him with such meaningful experiences is deeply appreciated. Witnessing the joy these moments have brought him has been profoundly moving.

Your program is truly impactful, and I firmly believe it should continue so that others may also benefit from the positive difference you make in young lives. I am sincerely thankful for your generosity and dedication."

Congratulations, Jordan. We are proud of you, inspired by you, and excited for everything ahead.
